This is Brittany Travis. She’s 14 & my little sister. She’s been missing since after school yesterday & no one has seen or heard from her. Police have been notified but still have had no sign of her. She lives in Niagara Falls NY. She’s 5’2 and about 100 pounds. She has long dirty blonde hair and was last seen wearing jeans, a white hoodie & flip flops. A simple reblog would be so helpful even if you don’t live around here. It could save her life & bring my little sister home. If anyone sees or hears anything please contact me : 716-545-9562 my mother : 716-957-2694 or the Niagara Falls Police Department. I just want my little sister home tonight. ):

Bar Crawl :Noun

The act of one or more people drinking in a number of bars in a single night, normally walking between them.

Over the past several years, the Buffalo Bar Crawl has grown into one of the largest bar crawl events in the world, drawing thousands of participants to each event. As opposed to a typical “bar crawl” where participants travel as one big group with designated time slots at each bar, our events allow participants to “crawl” at their own pace. Your mission? Visit every participating bar before the end of the night and earn yourself a FREE Buffalo Bar Crawl T-shirt!

Participation in the event is just ten bucks and includes a souvenir beer stein (yours to keep), a wristband good for free cover & exclusive drinks at each participating venue, and a “score card” to mark your progress. Each bar will be offering three drink specials (one shot, one beer, one mixed drink) - all $3 or less!

As you enter each venue, the security person at the door will “hole punch” that bar’s
section of our score card. Visit every participating bar and return to our bar crawl
registration area to redeem your score card for a FREE bar crawl T-shirt. Are you ready to crawl?

Whenever somebody asks me where I’m from, I often find myself bracing for their reaction when I say Buffalo. If the person is polite, the response might be something like, “Wow! You must get lots of snow!” If they’re feeling a bit more forward, it’s likely something along the lines of “I bet you’re glad you got the hell out of that dump!” In most cases, this sort of conversation would be qualified as “small talk,” and the proper retort would be none at all — just a simple “I guess” and a shrug. Because of this, the person I’m interacting with, expecting the monosyllabic replies of typical small talk repartee, is in no way prepared for the robust counterattack I’m prepared to inflict. Something that usually begins with, “BUFFALO IS THE BEST CITY EVER!” And I mean it….

Check out this Buffalo city guide written by Maxwell Tielman for Design*Sponge. You might find something new about our beautiful city.

The Kenmore Village Improvement Society (KVIS) has announced that the Trader Joe’s for Western New York campaign was successful, as Trader Joe’s plans to open a store in WNY during the 4th quarter of 2013.

The KVIS made efforts to bring the popular grocery store, known for its unique food and beverage items, to the area with a campaign featuring a mascot called “Kenmore Joe”, letter writing, and social media initiatives.

"Go Sabres" cheer going as Nathan Gerbe gets his head shaved for St. Baldrick’s Conquer Kids’ Cancer Event

This week marks 41 years since the nation’s deadliest prison uprising took place at the Attica Correctional Facility, located 35 miles east of Buffalo, in 1971.

Thirty nine men , 10 hostages and 29 inmates, were killed when State Police retook the prison following a riot that broke out on September 9th.

Many people attribute the riot to the racial issues inside of the prison at the time. Of 2,243 inmates, 54% were African American, 9% Puerto Rican and 37% white; however, all of the 383 correctional officers were white. From reports on the prison conditions, some corrections officers were openly racist and assaulted the prisoners with their batons, which they dubbed “n***** sticks”. During this time period in the country, black militancy was at its peak and several prisons had their black militants transferred to Attica. Additionally, George Jackson, a member of the Black Panther Party, died at the hands of white prison officers only a few days before the riot in the San Quentin State Prison in California, adding to the racial tension. The aftermath of the riot called for prison reform, especially in the treatment of minority inmates who were becoming a majority in several state correctional facilities across America

Calling all artists of Western New York!

Are you interested in joining a group of talented people, just like you? Well, today’s your lucky day!

My name’s Cat, and I’d like to start such a group, but I can’t do it without support from fellow artists like you. I need feedback, and lots of it! I need to know if there are other people interested in doing something like this, because I don’t want to commit to it if nobody is going to come.
Artists of all kinds would be welcomed, and we’d be meeting for a couple hours every few weeks. Meetings would have free food (wow!) and snacks (holy smokes!) and would be a place for us to just hang out and make friends and draw (nifty!). We’d have special events like trips to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and movie nights, all sorts of things!

Please, please, please signal boost, even if you don’t live in the area, so that more people can see it! And if you do live in the area, but aren’t into art, tell anyone you know who might be interested.

We need all the help we can get, so please spread the word!

Nothing is going to happen without help from you! I’m not one to beg for signal boosts or reblogs, you guys know this, but I really want this to happen! I also made a quick logo for the group now, since people tend to just scroll past plain old text posts.

What do ye artists think?

Hey, this sounds like a terrific idea! We have so many terrific and talented young (and not so young) people in Buffalo so let’s make this happen!
